I’m Errol Miller. A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® with an accounting background, I've been advising clients on insurance and their financial planning for 13 years.
Retirementadvice.co.za is my personal attempt to explain some of the most basic and important financial concepts – concepts which influence any family’s financial plan in significant ways. The site is obviously not exhaustive. Indeed, thousands of very good books have been written on wills, estate planning, risk cover, investments and retirement planning. My hope is that my years of experience working in the financial services sector can offer you a quick guide – via retirementadvice.co.za – to the most important elements to pay attention to.
I started my career with a chartered accountancy firm, and have written many exams in my 20 years in the profession. I have also had seven years’ experience in my own business and have held accountant and financial manager positions. Thirteen years ago I started with Liberty Life, and while working with Liberty I have qualified as a Certified Financial Planner, enabling me to offer expert advice in insurance and retirement products. In addition to Liberty, I also represent products from the Sanlam insurance company.
Retirement funds and their related investments are important to me, as are all the subjects covered on this site. I believe they collectively represent the central knowledge any family needs in place to plan successfully for financial stability extending over the generations.

Planning is everything
One of the questions I am most frequently asked is “How much do I need for retirement?” There’s no one answer to that – everyone’s needs are different, and everyone’s idea of the ideal retirement also differs. But there is one standard rule that we all need to follow –plan for your goals.

There are many very good reasons why investing at a young age is a very good idea, not least of which is the power of compound interest. Ultimately, though, it's the ability to plan financially that really counts...
It was Benjamin Franklin who said "Nothing in this world is certain but death and taxes" – and that’s true, but there are other certainties: that we all have goals, and that we will all grow older, if not reach old age.
